utmp - manual page for utmp (depinit) version 0.1.4  

SYNOPSIS

utmp [OPTION...]  

DESCRIPTION

create, modify or display a record in a user accounting database.
-6, --ipv6=ADDRESS_V6
IP address of host
-h, --host=HOST
Name of the host from which the user logged in
-i, --id=ID
inittab id for the process
-l, --line=TTY, --tty=TTY
TTY device without '/dev/'
-p, --pid=PID
Process ID
-s, --session=INT
Session id for windowing
-t, --terminate=INT
Termination status of dead process
-u, --user=UNAME
user's login name
-x, --exit=INT
Exit status of dead process
-f, --file=FILE
Use FILE for database
-w, --wtmp
Use the wtmp database
--accounting
Create an undocumented record type
--boot-time
Create/change the boot time record
--dead-process=PID
Identify a terminated process
--empty
Create an unrecognisable record type
--init-process=PID
Identify a process spawned by init
--login-process=PID
Identify a login process
--new-time
Identify time after a time change
--old-time
Identify time before a time change
--run-level
Create/change the run level record
--user-process=PID
Identify a user process
-A, --ALL
Output all database entries
-I, --ID
Output all database entries with a matching id
-L, --LINE
Output all database entries with a matching line
-?, --help
Give this help list
--usage
Give a short usage message
-V, --version
Print program version

Mandatory or optional arguments to long options are also mandatory or optional for any corresponding short options.

utmp is a wrapper for the utmp library functions.
